The rise of BPC-157

What it is, where the interest came from, and where the evidence actually stands.

Few research peptides have travelled as far, as fast, as BPC-157. Here is what it is, where the interest came from, and where the evidence actually stands.

What it is

BPC-157 is a synthetic peptide of fifteen amino acids. Its sequence is derived from a protein found in gastric juice — the “BPC” stands for Body Protection Compound. At Sequence it sits in Repair: tissue, gut, injury.

Why the interest

Over the past three decades, a body of preclinical research — largely in cell cultures and animal models — has explored BPC-157 in the context of tissue repair. Areas studied include:

  • Tendon and ligament models
  • Gastrointestinal lining models
  • Blood vessel formation (angiogenesis) signaling
  • Muscle and connective tissue models

That breadth, and how often it appears alongside TB-500 in the literature, is a large part of why it became the best-known name in the category.

Where the evidence stands

Precision matters here. The majority of published work is preclinical. Findings in cell cultures and animal models are a starting point for research — not a conclusion about people. BPC-157 is not an approved medicine, and it is supplied by Sequence strictly as a research chemical.

Rising interest is not the same as settled evidence. We try to be clear about which is which.

How we supply it

Every lot is tested for identity and purity before it ships, and the certificate is available on request. The vial is dark-amber glass with a cream label, the Repair stripe, and the same final line as every other compound we carry.
